I've been watching UNH hockey since the 95-96 season and have watched many great players (Krog, Haydar, Conklin, Mowers, Beakar, Boguniecki, Fillipowiccz, O'Brien, Ayers) in that time period. However Saviano was by far my favorite player that I've ever watched play the sport of hockey. I was never so sorry to see a player leave UNH as I was to see Savi play in his last game on Saturday night. I will admit that I had tears in my eyes when that final buzzer sound and looked down to the ice and saw Savi as the first person to Ayers' net to give him a hug after that game. I looked at that goal crease and thought to myself that those two players are the heart and soul of this team. Savi played the game the way every hockey player should play. He gave his best effort when ever he was on the ice, he showed that you can be a very aggressive player and at the same time be a very clean player (2 PM this season and the call was questionable), he was a classic example of a true sportsman.
I am truely sad that I will never see Savi singlehandedly keep the opposing teams power play unit pinned behind their own net for a solid minute and a half.
We will never see Savi break down the side line slam on the breaks and hit Collins with a perfect pass while the opposing defender picks his jock strap up off the ice.
And has another poster said we will never hear these words out of an announcer "He does not quit, he just does not quit HE DOES NOT QUIT!!!!
Thank you for 4 great years Steve, you will be missed. Best of luck in your future hockey career or where wver your life takes you.
